Abstract

In the 21st century, AI brings a drastic change in all sectors. In the field of academia, it plays a very great role. Students use AI tools for different kinds of tasks in academics. This study examines the role of an AI tool on the academic performance of students at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow. Using purposive sampling, 107 students were selected across different academic backgrounds. Data were collected online and offline through a structured questionnaire providing both qualitative and quantitative data. Quantitative data were analysed using frequency percentage calculations, while qualitative data by thematic analysis. The results show that students widely use AI tools for writing, summarising, idea generation, and improving language quality. AI also supports better time management and reduces study-related stress. However, concerns such as inaccurate information, over-reliance, plagiarism risks, and data privacy issues were noted. Overall, the study concludes that AI tools positively influence academic performance when used carefully and with proper ethical guidance.
